On Feb. 03, 2008, after we started planning the benefit, Pastor Brian’s home was destroyed by fire leaving him, his partner Nathan and their beloved cats homeless. Brian and Nathan are currently staying a small apartment with a very dear friend and they’re trying to find a temporary home, for at least two years, while the insurance is sorted out and their home can be rebuilt. They are looking for a cat friendly home, a house or town house, not too far from the DTES as Brian needs to be close to the community he serves. If anyone can help by letting Brian and Nathan know about a place that may suite their needs (something affordable) please contact us here or LUMS directly 604 682 2362.
Thank you very kindly!!

Now surely between all us lovely people, and some gentle nagging to friends and family we can have this sucker rapped up by midnight, right? Good because we need to … the deadline is today.
Here is the link again: http://www.givemeaning.com/proposal/givelove
or
just cut and paste the stuff below, and maybe change the ‘everyone’ to grandma, or uncle Bob or maybe just leave it if you want to send it out to a bunch of people (which would mean you rock bye the way)
- Doing a good deed : Priceless

Hi Everyone,
Just a wee bit of your time, not your cash promise! . Some of my friends at Hear the Hunger have just partnered with a great organization called Give Meaning, they provide free online fundraising pages to over 1200 different initiatives around the world. Basically, they handle collecting of donations on behalf of charities, eliminating what can often be an expensive and time consuming, yet vitally important part of the fund raising process. This makes giving easy and convenient, as well as meaning more money directly to LUMS, as Give Meaning does not charge anything for this service.
What they do ask, and THIS IS THE EASY PART
is to ensure that this is a viable proposition, with lots of community support
they require our proposal to receive 100 votes.
This is where you come in:
1) Go to this link : http://www.givemeaning.com/proposal/givelove
2) you’ll be required to give your email, but nothing else, you are just voting on the Hear the Hunger proposal, and helping us secure the opportunity to easily collect donations online, for zero cost, meaning more for LUMS, meaning more for those in the DTES who didn’t eat today. It’s that simple really.
3) Click on the “Vote Now” button. (Most important part)
4) Be proud of yourself, you’ve already Made a difference.
5) Thank you ![]()

Today more than 500 meals were served at First United Church. It’s both good and bad news. Good because there was just enough food to stretch that far and sad because the need was that great…………..more to come…………….

I personally became a friend of LUMS when my son Erik, 13 years old, who has been volunteering in the meal service with his father since he was about 8 years old, invited me to come help serve a meal. Our involvement has brought us so much personal joy, understanding and acceptance of our societies’ diversities. The reality is, whether we like it or not these people are our neighbors and under the most unimaginable circumstances, they could be our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers or friends.
When I learned that part of the requirement for a course that I’m taking, Self Expression and Leadership Program” through Landmark Education, is organizing a community project, I knew right away that I wanted to do something for LUMS.

Thank you very much to the employees and friends of Air Canada and Aeroplan who participated in our first fund-raising effort. The winner of $162.50 is Sue Sitter, AC Customer Service Agent, Vancouver Airport.
Congratulations Sue!!

When asked if she would consider being our official photographer for the evening for an honorarium my friend Katherine replied;
“That sounds so interesting. I would love to be involved. As far as my services are concerned I would like to donate my time. Working on the SeaBus I see so many people that live or spend time in the DTES and many are mentally challenged. I can only imagine how hard it is to be surviving on the DTES. I have a friend that I met on the SeaBus, his name is Scotty and he is schizophrenic and homeless.
When I’m at work I bring him a sandwich or something for lunch and he sits on the boat and we chat for an hour or so and then he is on his way. So if I can help with this project I’d love to.” [Read more →]

This has been a very exciting journey so far. Response from friends and family has been overwhelming. People are so ready to help where there is need and the need in the DTES is so great that it will take all of us, on some level, to lend a hand. Thanks for your ongoing support
Here is a beautiful poem written by my stepson Sebastien that I wanted to share with everyone.
